Found this on Yelp....it's a tiny place with friendly help and FANTASTIC ice cream! The banana was amazingly yummy- creamy with great flavor and tiny chunks of bananas. I couldn't decide between 2 flavors so server suggested I split the scoop and get both. (their 1 scoop is really 2), so that's what I did...and got 1 scoop of each! Perfect. A must go if you're on HWY 84 near Hood River.

Some of the best ice cream in Oregon. I love ice cream. My favorite until I found Mike's was prince puckler's. But I think Mike's takes the edge with slightly creamer taste. Very cool small place with character. I am glad that I ran into this.

A local sent us here to this cute little ice cream place. The ice cream scoops were generous and delicious. It can be crowded but it is worth it. There is a very fun kids area outside for the kids to play in.

Super cute boutique ice cream parlor. Mike is a great guy. Huckleberry ice cream is super choice. Take the kids.

Best place for ice cream. Been coming since I was in first grade!

Small place that gets packed in the summer. The ice cream flavors are great, not your ordinary flavors. The cream cones are delicous.

This place may be small, but it's oh so mighty. You could pass Mike's without knowing but that would be a huge loss... For you. I've been going to Mike's for years and it's a "must stop" anytime I go by hoodriver. It's not open all year but in the summer, this place is hoppin'!

Mike's Ice Cream is great! I love going to Mike's on a hot summer day in Hood River. Nothing like a nice milk shake or ice cream cone. Great service at this little ice cream shop and nothing but deliciousness.

This place was busy all day. After dinner I had an urge for ice cream and Mike's was the perfect place. Only one complaint is that it is hard to see the flavors available due to the layout of the place. Nice front area with seats on the lawn to enjoy the ice cream.

My dad normally hates ice cream, we went here twice in the two days we were in Hood River. We went home to California. Here we are a year later, and my dad is STILL raving about how amazing the Banana Ice Cream is. We love Mikes!

If Hood River doesn't have enough going for it - there's Mikes. Good Stuff and just what the Doc ordered after 7 innings in the sun. Had to give a shout out.

Tons of fun. Visit Mike's if you can. Great little stop to make while visiting Hood River.

Everything is good!!!! NOTE: On the nice days, you just have to be there at the right time because the line can get very long at anytime! Good luck. :)

I appreciate the "baby scoop" size here because it is a normal size scoop of ice cream. For $2.00. The "single" scoop is enormous! I had salted carmel. Could not have been tastier. Excellent way to end a warm summer night.

I could be pushed to 3.5. I guess I had higher expectations because of the great ratings. But I wouldn't say its the best ice cream I've eaten. We tried it 3 times in 24 hours (my friends are ice cream addicts). - limited selection of flavors. Some not as inventive - pumpkin was my favorite - some (Marionberry) are icy, not creamy...crumble when trying to scoop...gross - I really like that they do baby scoops (smaller than the single, but plenty), and baby baby (even smaller), so then you can try the flavors. Reasonably priced - I like the outdoor seating area

Today was the first time that I've ever tried Mike's Ice Cream and was extremely disappointed. After hearing much wonderful reviews from family and friends over the course of ten years (none of which live in the continental U.S.), it was a "must visit" destination on my travels through Oregon. I ordered a two scoop cup of Galaxy and Raspberry Truffle. However I was never able to try the Raspberry Truffle as there was a long strand of blonde/light brown hair in it. My sensors should've gone haywire when I noticed the reddish blonde/brown haired guy scoop my ice cream. After placing the Raspberry Truffle scoop in the cup, he kept staring at it as if something was wrong with it. He then tried to pull/pinch something out of that scoop with his bear fingers but looked unsuccessful then pushed whatever it was back into the ice cream with his finger. It wasn't until my ice ream was paid for and I sat down at the picnic bench outside did I realize what he saw. Yes, they were kind enough to re-scoop new ice cream for me but opted to replace the Raspberry Truffle with the Butter Pecan. Ok, so first off... Food Prep 101 - When preparing (or making) any food items, you should always wear a hairnet no matter how long or short your hair is. Gloves are a nice touch too. *hint, hint* Secondly... Sanitation - When handling any type of food in front of a customer it's nice to wear clean gloves and not touch your customers food with your bare hands. Yes, they do make Eco-Friendly disposable gloves. Finally... I would've respected you folks immensely if you told me outright if something was wrong with my choice of flavor(s) and asked to pick another flavor instead. Also, to pull that tub of Raspberry Truffle from the display freezer and discarded it because one of your customers informed (and showed) you that there was a strand of hair found in there. Unfortunately this was my first and last time that I'll ever visit Mike's Ice Cream and will let others know that if they don't mind finding a strand of hair in their ice cream or having it poked with someone else's bare finger(s) then by all means please stop on by.

Tonight was the first time we tried this spot. Perhaps our expectations were high after all the hype but we were really disappointed with the cream. It was just OK but we will give it another shot.

What's not to like (except the lines?) Until someone beats Salt and Straw on taste, it's hard to earn Five Stars. Nevertheless, they probably have the best Peppermint ice cream I've ever had, the Candy Cane pieces really make it. Mint ice cream is not meant to be Green, here it's glorious Pink. And the $2 small cup is the deal. The searing area is great, go lay on the lawn across the street if it's too busy. A local must-stop institution.

I avoid ice cream shops that serve what everyone else does, or what's available in the store. This place scoops up Price Puckler's ice cream from Eugene. Score!!! PP's is homemade. Very good. Friendly service. Bring cash. :)

Double scoop- fresh banana and coffee chip. TO DIE FOR. Wait in line, however long it takes. When vacation is over, and you look back on your trip highlights, you will think about the amazing ice cream you had here. :)

Three stars for the ice cream, five stars for the setting. The ice cream is just ok. Yes, it's locally made, but neither the flavor intensity nor the texture is particularly good. It's not very rich or creamy, and the overwhelming flavor is sweet -- the chocolate or caramel or whatever fades to the back. And the most engaging thing about the counter staff is their list of ways they plan to use their tips (I liked the person who wanted to use hers to buy/build a time machine.) But this is absolutely the best ice cream eating setup I have EVER seen. It's just a big crowd of people spilling out all over a lawn covered in adirondack chairs. So homey!! And there is an absolutely wonderful play structure/playhouse for the kids. If you are an ice cream snob, you'll be disappointed in the ice cream itself. But if you're simply looking for an ice cream to enjoy on a hot summer's day, you'll have a lovely experience.

Friendly staff, Excellent ice cream! Pistachio almond is spot on. Huge, generous "single scoop".

I was in town and I was craving for something sweet! I found the place! They have about 10-12 ice cream flavors, i ordered 2 baby scoops in a sugar cone....very cheap! Only $2...three of us end up paying $6 totally! Ice cream was very yummy for what we paid for! Give them a try!!

A quintessential Hood River summer experience, Mike's turns into a community hub on a warm night. Open from April through November, Mike's Ice Cream sources their stuff from somewhere in Eugene (name is on the tip of my tongue) that makes some simple but excellent flavors. We liked the Galaxy (sweet malted chocolate with white and dark chocolate pieces is a kids and adult pleaser) and the banana, along with the salted carmel. Its good, solid ice cream. Its not earth shattering (it's not gelato, for example) but it is a little classic Americana. The perfect summer treat. The best part of Mike's is the experience. You may hate the line (goes on forever) but wait in it you must, and it goes quickly in this warm, summery setting. Cash only please. Take your cone (waffle cones are the best, of coarse!) over to a lazy, adirondack chair propped upon a green lawn, push your toes into the cool grass, and soak up the summer ambiance.

Amazing Ice Cream. Loved the huckleberry sundae . Also the shakes and malts. The counter service was swift and friendly. Cash only business, Mikes has a tree house and several kids adirondack chairs. Definitely a stop for my next trip to the Hood.

It's a solid 3.5 but I rounded up since its a small local business that's become a staple to Hood River. Service is friendly but the process is very traditional. They also don't take cards - bring cash. That being said, we love that they are open late. Nothing like a warm night out and grabbing some ice cream after dinner. Be prepared though, even at 9 PM, there was a line.

Multiple great ice cream favors. Fun outdoor seating. It is a great place to sit and people watch. They also have sodas, shakes and toppings for ice cream. For non-dairy fans they have coconut bliss ice cream bars and usually one sorbet. It is a great place to stop while on an after dinner stroll.

This is an institution here in Hood River. It is a tradition to come here with the family after dinner and hang out with friends while enjoying your delicious treat. The kids love to climb around the wooden structure they have on the side of the building. I love that they offer a "baby cup". I don't need a larger size to enjoy and I can come more often, too. Last time I had the coconut ice cream. My little boy had the lemon custard which was really good. The twins decided they want their ice creams in cones now. That was no problem for my little boy, on the other hand my little girl was a little messy, she takes forever with ice cream. This is a fun tradition and we love coming here every summer.

Went there yesterday. I automatically drop a star due to the fact that they do not accept plastic. No cards. I rarely carry cash but luckily I did that day. I was there around 2pm and man was it hot out. We were walking around in hood river yesterday. I was wanting to cool down and get a cone. There was a little long but I get it. It was busy on a hot day. We got to the the front of the line and they (the scoopers) started to talking about there day and started to ignore us. I don't know if it was a fluke but it was damn good ice cream.

Little ice cream store in town just for us. Waltzed in and had a few taste tests before I determined what I wanted which was a coconut ice cream cone. The hubby had a pistachio almond cone. All for $4.00. That's what I'm talking about. Licked it all up!

In the summer, this adorable cottage on Oak Street is a true delight for ice cream lovers. Grab a scoop and sit on the lawn or picnic benches and soak in the sun. There is also this funky play structure on the side that reminds me of 'The Doctor is In' from the Peanuts cartoon strip. Lucy, where are you? The business is seasonal and only open from April 1st to November 1st. During the off season, you can still get their gelato from Doppio Coffee + Lounge just down the street.

Such a cute scoop shop that's been around for the last 27 years. Vintage green decor and seating outside. Ice cream is from Eugene and delish. Had the bing cherry. Reasonable at 3.50 for a waffle cone. The whole place is at vintage delight with adirondack chairs and picnic tables. A garden delight.

Friendly service, cute little ice cream shop. Had the banana it was yummy. I enjoyed that the ice cream is local to Oregon! There isn't a lot of space but was nice to stop and grab sums ice cream and continue sterling through town. The entrance is a bit funky, I felt like I was walking through people to get through the door. The front is set up for people to sit out on the lawn and enjoy. Will go again!

Banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana No nuts!!!! Lovely sitting area with adirondack chairs and grass. Our server was sweet, possibly named Maddie. She would like to use her tip money to go salsa dancing with a sexy man. ¡Buena suerte!

Going to Hood River? You've probably heard of a "great little ice cream shop in downtown" - look no further because this is what everyone is buzzin' about! Imagine this - you're spending the day in the gorge, morning on the water, afternoon in the town flitting in and out of a dozen cute shops. You've already stopped at Double Mountain brewery for amazing pizza and beer for lunch, but now... how do you get that afternoon pick-me-up? And that's how Mike's got famous. Big scoops, fun flavors, and a festive atmosphere is a perfect equation for success, and I'm thrilled about it. Mike offers you less than a dozen flavors, but that's completely fine with me. I don't need to be wowed with quantity, just give me creativity in your product and atmosphere an I'm going to be happy. The Lemon fro yo is worth getting for sure and they have a coffee ice cream that's totally delish! (note: cash only and closed during winter months)

A fun little spot in Hood River, Mike's (not related to the small burger chain in the Portland area) has what everyone wants on a hot summer day. Ice cream! This place is small, and they don't have very many flavors of ice cream, but that kind of adds to the appeal. When you want a scoop, you don't need 31 flavors or more, and Mike's choice of about 10 flavors are more than enough to find something that sounds delicious. Last time I was in I actually had a scoop of Lemon frozen yogurt on a sugar cone and sat outside in an adirondack chair. Even on a chillier fall day it was still fun and relaxing to eat a cone with a friend. This spot can get long lines with summer tourists, and the limited amount of seating becomes a bummer at those times, but who needs to sit down? A cone from Mike's is a great treat to walk around town and window shop with.

If you don't like ice cream, you have no business reading this review. However if you do, YUMMY, you need to put Mikes on your quest for the best ice cream on this planet. This is THE PLACE for honest, real flavors. Mr. B had a hot fudge sundae, me a regular scoop of fresh raspberry ice cream. Probably one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted, so rich in buttercream content it started melting instantaneously. Artificial flavors are a bad word here. Only pure raspberries, seeds and all. Sure soothed my nerves after a substandard burger elsewhere. And the fudge on the sundae....really dark and rich. Not for the weak hearted. Too bad they did not have toasted almonds. Only walnut halves, something I must avoid because my mouth starts itching. This should be on everyone's bucket list!

Even on a chilly late September afternoon, it's good ice cream. And as a bonus for that cool day, there's no line at 3pm on a Friday afternoon. Lots of good flavors, and the chocolate nugget was rich and creamy, with good size chunks of chocolate embedded. The guy behind the counter was friendly, and tastes were available. Cash only. Open from April through November 1st.

Family tradition to make a stop at this cute little ice cream shop when we're visiting Hood! I don't know what "baby" scoops are but quite frankly I don't think the place does either because they count scoops differently here... So I THINK they count scoops by the number of them you see, ABOVE your cone. Yes. So when you ask for a "single scoop", you're going to get 2 scoops, for $3. When you ask for a "double scoop", you're going to get 3 scoops, for $4! Seriously!! This is so much ice cream...but luckily every flavor is so delicious you won't have any issues finishing. ;)

Best ice cream I've ever had. 6 stars on service. Mellow atmosphere. I missed the cash only sign and they were super cool about it and told me to "just pay them tomorrow" - being from LA, I was in disbelief as places around here would of called the cops.... Mandarin Chocolate ice cream so good it should be illegal, same with banana. I'll be flying back just to eat this ice cream..... Simply amazing.

Been wanting to come here every time I come to Hood River but the line is usually long and out othe door. Lucked out today...100 degrees and short line. Got a huckleberry-coconut shake made with fresh huckleberries. It was delish! Quaint place, nice staff, and cute sitting area in the shade.

Awesome! That's what this place is. My BF and I recently became engaged and where did we go afterwards to celebrate??? Mike's Ice Cream naturally. Portions--I requested one scoop and they gave me two...apparently this is standard and i am in love with their counting system. They make the ice cream as healthy as can be. There is fresh fruit and all sorts of tasty delights. The staff is super friendly. They have long term loot (t-shirts) that are available for purchase. Lots of outdoor seating on benches. Within walking distance to other fun places. Cash ONLY

The ambience is what hits me here. It's small, fun, playful and reasonably priced w/ good servings. Definitely a good place to hit up on a sunny day. Be prepared to settle in on the front lawn and relax in the sun. PS. CASH/CHECK ONLY!!!

    (4)
  • Jeff S.

This would be a 5 star review if they only took debit cards. The sign out front says cash or check only (which I assume in 2013 means cash only). The ice cream is very good and service was fast and friendly. Try the mandarin chocolate.

What a great place! Mike's has a small shop with garden seating. Their ice cream is wonderful and it makes a perfect stop on a hot day in the Gorge.
